Approve Minutes of September 4, 2014
The commission approved the minutes of September 4, 2014.
New Business
Guest Louis Burch
Louis shared ways in which the commission may be more effective at conservation
outreach efforts in town. The commission was pleased to know they have tried most
of the suggestions offered. Social media was discussed. The commission may have
restrictions as an appointed body in town. Forming a local chapter of an
environmental group was suggested.
Environmental News
A number of the Conservation Commission members took part in the Climate March
in New York City on September 20. There were 400,000 marchers that day. An
article was written in The Day newspaper covering the event.
Ongoing Business
Outreach
The commission will accept the invitation by the Old Lyme Visiting Nurse
Association to take part in their annual health day at Christ the King Church. The
event will take place on November1 from 8am-noon.
Rogers Lake
George shared the final recommendation for the Zoning Commission. It asks that a
special zone in the 500 acres that drain into Ogle Pond be established. The state
requires coastal towns to adopt regulations that reduce nonpoint pollution and by
adopting best practices, this zone would satisfy that. The objective for the town is to
reduce nutrients in Rogers Lake (contributing to the increase in weeds and algae) and
head off future nutrient loading from future developments in this 500 acre r-80 zone.
The Conservation Commission voted to endorse this recommendation.
Tom shared the proposed changes to the boathouse that will be voted on by the town
this month.
The meeting adjourned at 9:32 pm.
